Default 91 5.2 sport t-case Question

Ohkay so im gonna tackle my output seal on the t case soon, and just curious which fluid should i use. to my understanding its just atf... but is it like the transmission where i need that expensive atf+4 or will just any trans fluid work? thanks in advance

From what I remember get ATF+4. Thats what I put in mine, per the owners manual.

I've also read some people putting real thin motor oil in your tcase... it acting more as a lubricant versus the aft... unfortunately i dont have an owners manual fro my truck, but unless someone else chimes in ill go with the atf+4

If you have an auto trans, put atf in the transfer case in case of cross contamination to/from the trans. Dextron/mercon 3 has the correct viscosity if you don't want to spend the money on atf+4. Try to stay away from the stuff that says "for use where blahblahblah is specified". The difference is atf+4 is synthetic and has some different additives. It won't matter as much in a t case as it does in the trans, just make sure to ALWAYS use AFT+4 in the trans if you want it to last.

If you have a manual trans, use 5w30. It has around the same viscosity as atf, but has more anti-foaming agents so the fluid stays in the bottom of the transfer case where it belongs.

Get Valvoline or Castrol ATF+4, as they are the only ones that I have found to be truly fully synthetic. Unless you get it from Dodge. Pennzoil, Quaker State, and the multiple house brands are a conventional fluid with "modifiers" to supposedly convert.
