Sorry to correct you there Mopar-nut I believe that the 1991 are throttle body fuel injected, also that the 96 runs OBDII instead of the OBDI.

Dug this one out of the grave.. You'd have better luck on a caravan forum.

Default Interchangeable

I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota Sport and need to change out the rear end assembly. What years are interchangeable with the 1989.
Thanks

1987-1990 bolt straight in; 1991-1996 uses six stud axles, so to keep your brakes and wheels, you'll need to swap the axle shafts.

2WD and 4WD don't directly interchange, though; and if you're 4WD, you NEED to make sure it's the same ratio as what you have now.

Thanks for the reply. All I want to do is swap out the entire rear end from my 1989 dodge dakota to which ever rear end will interchange with, and its a 2wd auto.

i went to pull and save and found 4 Dakotas the only one that had the trim pieces around the headlights was a 97 and they almost fit so i took them back and found an 89 but the only difference is the 89 has orange sig lights and my 90 has clear. these parts must break alot because they are very difficult to find.

I have a 2000 dodge Dakota quad cab, I know that the door panels aren’t a direct fit from a 02. But what I don’t know is, could I take the doors from a 02 and put them on a 2000 without complications? Is the door latch in different locations or the door harness plugs different?
