Default 96 dakota sport, 4cyl, seized electric radiator fan.

I bought the truck used. yesterday the electric radiator fan seized. I've been to many junkyards so far but cannot find it. I was wondering if the 96 4cyl even came with an electric radiator fan.

Only the 4cly came with an electric fan which is what the FSM states. www.rockauto.com or www.napaonline.com might have it.

only in TX here, (Chicago) a non workin elec fan would be a non issue this season youd have at least another month to find one before the weather warmed up enough to need it, probably more than that... I frequent a couple yards near to me and have only seen 1 4 cyl Dakota among many.
Would a caravan one be the same? I mean I know the mounting wouldnt be but if you take the caravan one out of its mount Im thinkin it should be able to be transplanted to the Dakota mount/shroud...

I've had some fans seize on me. If you want a fix until you can find one, shoot the motor par of the fan with WD-40 while spinning it by hand. you might be able to get it to run for a while longer while you wait for the replacement.

Thanks.

There is also the possibility if needed to swap in an universal fan or the popular junkyard ones like the Ford Taurus fan as well as others. There are a few electric fan installs in the FAQ2 in this section (including my own).

^That would be my suggestion, either replace with a universal or swap in one from another car. All you'd have to do is mount it and use the existing wires to wire it.

For about $25 from Rock Auto you can have a brand new electric fan motor.
