Default Front shocks

I own a 1994 dakota 4x4 long bed truck. My question is, is it possible to put 2 wheel drive shocks on a 4x4?? My front suspension has a clunking noise when I go over a railroad crossing or hit a pot hole. It almost sounds like the suspension is hitting the limit of its travel. My son stated the some people put two wheel drive shocks on because of the cost???

If you're just looking for cheap you can get new shocks for your truck (4x4) for 10 bucks a piece on rock auto. You're not gonna get much cheaper than that.

I just looked up napa shocks. I'll just order a set of these. The fully extended length is about 2 inches longer for the 4x4 shocks as compared to the 2 wheel drive shocks. I'm thinking that someone put the wrong shocks on the truck.

Ah sorry I misread your post and I thought you figured your shocks were shot and wanted to put some 2wd shocks on to save money.

I thought they mounted differently. Looking at pictures of each they look like they have different lower mounts.
