snow causing problems....

Default snow causing problems....

Ok so once again im here in regards to my 91 5.2 4x4 dakota....

I got a call from a friend to come winch him out of a massive snow drift in his field...

get him all all fine and dandy. then decided to plow through some drifts myself...

afterwards (after the 2nd big drift bust) it started to lose power and acted like it was misfiring when in drive and trying to move... if u put it in neutral and revved it, it sounded and acted fine.... back into drive and it did it again and died... would start wouldnt start, then it fired and continued to act the same. i limped it out of the field the best i could, and about a mile down the road (approx a mile and a half later)

Any ideas, someone told me crank sensor could cause this if its getting wet, unsure about that... but just looking for a place to look...

91 doesnt have a crank sensor
I'd be lookin at replacing cap rotor and wires

Did you bend your exhaust pipe and cause a pinch point somewhere, that could cause it to not run well under load (in gear). Or possibly a fuel line bent maybe, at least those are things you can check for free.

If not I would check for spark and fuel. There is no telling what you did by running into some snow banks, could be almost anything.

You probably got everything wet. The plugs,wires and so on. put it in a heated garage for the day and that should help maybe even pointing a turbo heater at it for awhile.

nothing is bent or damaged that i can find... like i said it came out of it on its own on the way home...

just wanna prevent this from happening again as it could potentially leave me stranded somewhere

then give the truck a good tuneup as I suggested above, and don't use the "cheapest parts available" How long has it been since this has been done?
(hint; thats why they call it PREVENTIVE Maintenance!)

plugs have approx 6k on them, wires are closer to 15k, cap and rotor i honestly couldnt tell ya, i havent done it since i bought the truck (approx 15k ago) The guy i bought it from said he done the cap and rotor shortly before i bought it, but yea its been on my list to do guess ill get on it a little quicker now

and for the reference my truck doesnt have a cat...

my truck doesn't have a cat either, unless one of the creatures that roam my house happen to jump in thru an open window.

So you're saying that it cleared up and started running fine on the way home? If so it was probably just getting snow/water into the intake or maybe in the dizzy and once it was all out it cleared up. It's probably a good idea to STOP plowing into snow drifts lol.
