How screwed am I?
Got the durango engine yesterday, got it home and immediatly checked the intake to see how much oil was in from plenum blowing, if it even had. Find the manifold is half full of water. pulled the manifold and 3 cylinders have water in them, not sure how long its ben like that but how much damage could there be on this and is it worth trying to save? or should i call them and ask for another motor? chances are they might not so curious if this would be worth the time or not.
worst case would be the cylinder walls are rusty, you would have to get the cylinders bored until the rust and pitting is gone, new pistons, rings, possibly have to clean up the rust on crank and rods. Depending on how rusty the heads are, you can remove the rust and port the intake side with a dremel tool, but you may be looking at new valves and getting the valve seats recut.
It all depends on how long water has been in the engine. a few months wouldn't cause much damage, but 5 years of water and you would be looking at having all of the above done.
Many junkyards offer a 30 day exchange. If not, they may be willing to return some of the money you paid. If they don't exchange it for you, pull the heads and see how rusty the cylinder walls are. If you did not plan to do a full rebuild, you may be better off buying another motor and using this one as a coffee table.

Thankfully the guys warranty is good for a full refund. When I picked it up he said they were selling quick and he only had 4 others, hopefully he still has one that isn't a dud.
But if I get an exchange I'm pulling the manifold off in the parking lot before I even leave this time to make sure.
