Default Tachometer maxed out, high voltage level

Hey all,

I have a 95 Dakota SLT 2wd automatic with the 5.2 Magnum tow package.

My tachometer is maxed out, and the voltage on my truck ranges from 14.7-14.9.

While I would like to have a working tach, I'm more worried about the voltage range. I don't want to start burning stuff out.

So, is my voltage level acceptable, even though its a bit high?

So the tach is always maxed out? Even with the ignition off and with the battery disconnected?
Did you get a voltmeter and read the voltage at the battery?

I will move this to the 1st generation Dakota section.

both of my trucks and my car run about 14.5v at idle. i think that part is normal. you could just have a bad wire at the coil/tach or somewhere in between.
