Default dodge/jeep Q

long time no post.. might be getting back in the off roading world

killed the dakota a few years ago. Killed the tranny and the truck isnt worth fixing, its been sitting in my backyard for years while i drive the superduty.

anyways..

looking at a 98 jeep that has a lift and some other fun stuff but the motor " barely runs" who knows what it means,... but will my 92 dakotas 318 be the same as the 318 in the 98 cherokee?

thanks
Chad

Yes it is the same, but for some reason Jeep has it own style of electronics as well as the starter is on the other side.

I will move this to the 1st generation Dakota sub-forum.

We have the Dakota wiring diagrams in the factory service manual in the FAQ in this section.
For a Jeep wiring diagram check out our Jeep section here or some other Jeep forum, I'm sure there is a PDF floating around somewhere. The FAQ has a few links to free online manuals for various vehicles.

Sweet thanks man. I only have like 10 min a week on the computer if you could post some links that would be great.

I have the motor out of the dakota. jeep is still in. right away i notice that the mounts are different . Thoughts?

Also if anyone has done the brand swap before and has any pointers let me know.

Thanks
Chad

To me with how popular the zj's are it should be pretty easy to find a 318 for it. My local junk yard always has 10-20 grand cherokees. I say salvage what you can off your old truck and then scrap the rest. Sell the good stuff to pay for the jeep 318.
