My 1987 4x4 Dakota's 3 speed W/OD transmision stoped working. I would like to use a newer stronger trans. when I replace the old one. What would be a good replacement?

 

You can try an auto from a Ram or Ram Van or Dakota from 92-95. The V8 version will stronger but it might suck down a little more HP. So sticking with a V6 transmission may be a good idea. You might need to swap around electronics and add in switches for OD/Over Drive and the TCC/Torque Converter Clutch lockup.

 

i found a minor difference between the 2 transmissions and that was the throttle rod didn't work for me.
