Ya following that instruction, the tire does rotate while the front driveshaft does not... so looking like the diff

Wow, that's pretty ugly. I think you can safely say you found the problem.

Where are you located, and will a front axle from a 97 fit? I just happen to have one sitting in my garage.

Well that sucks a fat one. So could I pull something from a Cherokee or wagoneer or get to seriously modding for a straight axle. I just need a cheap front end possibility that can be made to work. Preferably one with the same gear ratio. I'd like to keep the chopping and welding at one end of this ugly beast

Just replace the ring and pinion. Under $200. http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/PartsL...D=321&CatID=35 Try ebay too. Chrysler 7.25 (Chry 7.25 Front and rear axle parts are the same)

A SAS you will be looking at $2,000-up if you do the work your self.

You sure? Those prices on a set of new gears is the same as a rolled Cherokee (from a Craigslist idiot). Especially if you make your own shackle extensions and weld it yourself. But I figured I'd see what the forums got to say on the subject, I've never owned a dodge till now
