94 V6 starting and dying
My 1994 Dakota will start, run for a little while and die. I have done just about everything that I can think of and don't really know what else to try.
Things replaced/fixed:
Factory splice has been repaired.
New plug wires
New coil
New EGR
New distributor
New crankshaft pos sensor
Fuel pump replaced two years ago
New computer
I am thinking about picking up a new set of spark plugs to see if that could possible be it. I also think that there may be crap in the fuel (it set for over a year before I bought it and it didn't have very much gas in it).
It will fire up immediately and sounds good while it runs. I can keep it running if I give it gas but once I let off it dies. Any suggestions?

Almost sounds to me like an IAC (Idle Air Controller) on it's way out. You said if you keep on the gas pedal, it will run? I had this happen in my Dakota and all I did was basically "teach" the truck how to idle again. I held the revs up around 1500, and slowly dropped them until I hit 750ish, held it there for a few minutes, and she was good to go. Since I replaced the IAC, I haven't had the problem, also put a v8 throttle body on it when I replaced the IAC tho.
After replacing nearly everything, I finally got it running. I disconnected the battery to reset the PCM. Then I took out the IAC and made sure it was clean and was able to turn. I also poured seafoam into the gas tank. I only had around 5 gallons in the tank so it had a stronger mix instead of pouring into a full tank.
Once the PCM had reset, I turned the truck on. It started right up and had a rough idle for a while until the computer re-learned the idle. It died twice during this process. I ran it at 1500 rpm for a while then let it just run by itself for about 20 minutes. That was the longest it had run without shutting off.
I was then able to drive it down the road without it shutting off.
So if anyone else has this problem in the future and none of the other things will fix it. Check the IAC!
