Mystery Resistor
There is a white ceramic resistor that is mounted right behind the carb on my 87 Dakota, with the V-6, that is broken in half. After a month of searching I found one on-line,it is discontinued from Dodge, and have it safely at home. The big question is, the one side of the resistor that is still in my truck is bolted to the motor with the metal mounting bracket, one connector has a wire going to a post with a black with white stripe wire attached, and the other side is broken off. Where does the broken off connector attach to? I'm guessing ground but I haven't bought my Haynes manual yet so I thought I'd ask the viewing public.
Upon close inspection I found the resistor spans the two contacts of the sending unit that is directly next to it. A black\white stripe wire is on one side and a solid black wire on the other.
So the 1987 dodge dakota is not represented in this forum?
Great site, I'm glad the Hard Core Sledders forums are more responsive.
C-ya.

The 87 Dakota is represented here, but however I do not have the knowledge of how the 87 works in detail. Others might but since no one posted up I'm assuming no one knows, or no one has a 87 Dakota. That is why I suggested the Ram section where they have a good 20+ years in carbureted engines chances are strong someone would know there. Don't get mad if you didn't use all of this sites resources to help with your problem.
ballast resistor? One wire is hot when cranking, the other goes to the coil. (positive side?) At least that's how ballast resistors usually work.
Reeealy sorry we offended the guy by not knowing anything about 87's.

I hope he doesn't want a refund of his forum membership dues.
