Default Stalling/ ticking problem

Hi,
I have a 1995 dakota 3.9 automatic thats giving me trouble. It likes to stall out after being shifted into drive or reverse. Also stalls randomly when idleing at a stop. At speed it runs perfect.

Also sometimes when leaving from a stop, when I give it gas it will rev up and make a rapid ticking sound but won't move. Eventually it will catch and start to move and then its fine.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Jason

Sounds like a vaccuum leak. This will cause it to go real lean just as the throttle is opened. And when under load it will Detonate, ping ,knock or rattle what ever you want to call the noise. When it pings it will not make any power. A lot of people pay no attention to it. But it can break rings, punch holes in pistons, pop head gaskets and flatten bearings. As you will find here these engine have a problem with plenum gaskets. Look down the intake with a light,if you see any oil you will have to open it up.
