Default Ahooooooga Horn

I really want to put a ahooga horn on my truck. My dad has one in his roadster and I have always wanted one since I was a kid. Has anyone ever wired one before?

Here is one on eBay with a relay and button. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OOGA-Air-Horn-Classic-12-Volt-w-Button-Relay-Installation-Kit-Car-Van-Auto-Boat/321168007926?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D17214%26meid%3D948716531397671732%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D8039%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D321156821772%26
How would I wire and hook in with a this relay? Would the relay even be compatible with our trucks? Should it be hooked into the fuse box or wired straight to the battery? I don't want to replace the stock horn, I just want this horn as a auxiliary fun horn.

As you can tell I'm no electrician and am in need of you help. Thanks in advance!

The #30 terminal of the relay should be hooked directly to the battery. The #87 terminal will go to the new horn. #85 or #86 should be grounded and the other one of the two will go to your new horn switch. The other side of your horn switch can go to either a switched (ignition) power source or to the battery. The #30 wire should have a fuse in it that's sufficient to handle your horn and the wire going to the switch should have a small fuse in it, maybe 2-3A.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the reply Tom A. Where are these terminals located? Under the hood or by the fuse box? Is there a diagram you have that would help me better understand? You have really detailed and good information, I just don't know where any of it is yet. Thanks so much!!

You need to buy a relay and add it in. Most auto parts stores will sell you a "standard" relay for a few bucks. The terminals on it will be numbered and it will probably have a wiring diagram printed on it, too.

The relay just screws onto the inside of the fender or some other spot near the battery.

So I know I'm slow and just getting around to this, but I have one last question for installing this horn. I have this kit and it has the relay and all the wiring with a push button too. (Its great!)

I have to hook up the horn to a positive connection, and the wiring diagram shows it going directly to the battery but I don't want constant power to the horn. To prevent a drain in the battery I would like to wire into something that only has power when the key is turned. Such as the ignition, but is there anything else I could access under the hood?

Hopefully I should have this thing honking soon! Thanks for the help.

the main power source will go to the battery it wont drain the battery since relay dont get triggered until switch is hit... i installed air horns on my truck and did such but i used original horn wire as trigger for relay .... my offroad lights and such are wired just the same(removed for winter right now) that main power wire for relay is direct.. even my winch is direct... never kills battery since it isnt in use till that switch is hit

you can use a switched source but it must be able to handle amps of current equipment plus the amps of the horn... this is why relays go direct due to power draw
