Can a transfer case from an automatic mount to a standard and can you reamove the tail housing on a standard from a 2 wheel drive and mout the transfer case

the tail housings on 5spd cant be swappeed. only autos can be. not sure about the transfer case questions though. i would guess that the tc's can be.

The bolt pattern will match, but then you have to also have the same size spline shaft, and the proper length input shaft on the transfer case. I believe automatics typically require the shorter input shaft and 5 spds the longer.

can you reamove the tail housing on a standard from a 2WD and mout the transfer case
2WD trans (auto or 5 spd) won't bolt to a transfer case by swapping out the tail housing, you have to have a 4WD trans.

Well thanks Shadow, I just learned something. I was told (by someone I thought would know) that to do this would require changing out the main shaft in the automatic - not nearly as simple as swapping tail sections.
