I've got a '90 Dakota. When I turn the key to ON, should the check engine light stay lit until I crank the motor? My check engine light goes off after three seconds in the ON position.

I'm trying to run down electrical problems and this might help out. Thanks.

 

can someone verify this for me next time they fire up their truck?

92 Dakota 318 4x4 ... OBD1 roughly 3 seconds and off.... just checked for you :O and I run like a tank

 

thats normal for it to turn off after a few seconds. its just the pcm running through all the start up tests

 

Thanks for the info. My dodge "expert" keeps telling me it's supposed to stay on. I wanted to verify before I start chasing something from the wrong angle.

 

it'll only stay on if somehting is wrong and it throws a code.
