Default 95 dakota slt 4x4 318 parting out

Hey guys-
Not sure if this is the correct area or not. Admins, feel free to move it if desired.

Anyway, My dakota is unfortunately at the end of its time, with me. The dealership that I bought it from, went out of business; theres no way to contact them. Thus, I cant get the title for it. my loss, your gain. I am selling it, as a parts truck, to whoever needs it. Its a 1995, slt, extended cab, 318 v8. 181000 roughly on it. runs great...no smoke. 4x4 works well. Just put 4 brand new good year wranglers on it, and has a matching spare, also like new. Steel wheels. black with chrome center caps. I was driving it daily, but bought a super duty for work, thus I have to dump the kota. It has the overhead compass/ temp, lights, console.60/40 seats up front. carpet is ok. Interior is red. has a unity spotlight on drivers side.

If anyone is interested, email me at brutalgraphix@gmail.com . I will send pics if requested. Dont pm me, because i dropped the email address that this forum is linked to. It can be driven anywhere, until insureance lapses. Im in northern illinois. lake county. Id LOVE to get $900 for it, but theres wiggle room for you guys. I dont have the heart to part it myself....its like killing a pet.

HOPE SOMEONE CAN USE IT TO GET THEIRS GOING. Oh, the gas gauge, of course is inoperable.

Regards, kevin.

This doesn't make much sense or ring true. OP: have you talked to the DMV or whatever it's called in Illinois? If it was a dealer or car lot that went out of business, they would probably be aware of it and even could put you in touch with the owner. In states I've lived in, the DMV has been able to issue a 'bonded title.' So that licensing, etc. could be done. Did you get any paperwork when you bought the truck? Write a check?

I bought an old Chevy truck once, without title. Eventually went through an outfit called International Title Service. http://www.its-titles.com/ They got me a document from Vermont or New Hampshire--which I took to the Dept. of Licensing in Washington State. Took some begging, the manager of the local office ended up calling the assistant secretary of the state Dept. of Licensing. But it worked. This is for any vehicle built before 1997.

Lesson, of course, is never buy anything that doesn't include a title. Once you pay your money and drive off, it's too late--especially if the seller is a scum bag.

Yep. contacted the DMV. they told me to contact the illinois state police. ISP told me that I needed all receipts that showed it was paid off. being that it was a buy here pay here deal, I DIDNT pay it off. When the dealer closed, he released the lien, and signed the title. he told me to bring one more payment, and I would be free and clear, but the payment had to be cash. in the time it took me to drive to the bank, and come back, the place was empty, and he was gone. he subsequently filed bankruptcy and moved. No one knows where he moved to. I have his name, address etc. A buddy of mine is a p.i., and got all the juicy bits, but it does no good without hiring a skip tracer. I just want it out of my hair.

i could also sue him, and get the title, but court costs to do this are worth more than the truck, in my opinion.

actually if he trully declared bankruptcy there would be a paper trace of the truck you would neeed to get ahold of the lawyer or chartered accountant/person dealign with it and they should be able to find the documents..

assuming he actually owned the truck to begin with

Reading between the lines here, but I don't think Kevin wants to be bothered.

I, personally speaking, would make a crusade of tracking this deadbeat down. I'd sue him for whatever the max in Illinois small claims is, with the thought that I'd settle for a signed clear title.

Probably the best way to resolve this (back to the thought of selling it) is to run an ad in the auto parts section of Craigslist explaining the situation & why there's no title.

BTW, if you wanted to go through ITS, you have the out that you aren't making payments and the owner HAS abandoned it.

I wonder what the Illinois rules regarding abandoned property are? Might be an idea to explore?

Just spitballing some ideas here.

BTW, if it was closer, I'd probably try to get it.
