'89 - need help with suspension
I'm new to the truck scene so I was wondering which suspension set up would be best for a lower look but also able to stay stiff in the rear, as I'll be hauling dirt bikes and such in the back. Heard drop spindles and lowering springs over coils. Just need some help!
I agree it all depends on how low you would want the truck.
0-2 inch drop: It would be the easiest to use lowering blocks for the rear and cut a coil out of the spring. The vehicle will be able to handle the drop and sufficient weight if needed to haul equipment.
2-4 inch drop: The easiest drop would be to flip the hangers on the levesprings, though do not leave the lowering blocks on because there is a possibility of hitting the bump-stops. For the front use a combination of a lowering spindle and new springs. Remember you are at the point where steering might be affected.
4-8 inch drop. NOT WORTH STATIC DROP. Spend the money and search for airbag suspension, dakotascustom website deals with that sort of information. You will also have to modify the IFS to have the drop and completely design a new back end to support this kind of drop.
Though I am guessing your Dakota is 2wd.
