Default Transmission interchange issue.

Hello everyone, I had a question that my father and I can't seem to figure out. He had a '93 Dakota 3.9L V6 that had the engine go out on it, and acquired a Dakota 5.2L V8 With a bad transmission. My question is, can we take the trans from the V6 and put it into the V8? Assistance would be greatly appreciated. We've put a lot of work into it as is.

Well, to be more accurate, we already bolted the transmission to the block (it fit together no problem), got everything connected, and it all put back together, but when we went to start it, the starter just sits there and clicks.

trans will directly interchange as long as it's out of a 95 or older. pull starter and see if something's bound up.
Ground wires all on OK?
does engine turn over with a socket on the crank damper? did you seat torque converter all the way back into trans?
what was wrong with the V8 truck that it was "junk" enough to part out its trans?
