Default fuel pump not working

As the title says my fuel pump quit working. I was having these issues before so I put a brand new pump in and it worked for a while then one night I went to the station and stuck 10gals in the tank and I nearly got a ticket for disorderly conduct from all the curse words. Well any way I got the truck towed home and I ran the pump off the battery and I got nothing so I switched it out with a used but known working pump and still got nothing. I can run the pump off my 12v inverter and they both work...wierd

Any thoughts?

Default Check relay

There is a fuel pump relay under the hood.Switch it out with lets say the one for the a/c and try it then.If it works just get another relay for it..I had this same issue as yourself.First time it WAS the pump second it was the relay. 1 1/2 later and still no problems. Also,if the relay is not the problem you may have a bad ground somewhere.

To add to 1stG92 - time to drag out the wiring diagram and start checking.

Swap the relay if possible with another one (all of mine are unique on the 1988, but the ASD is a standard Bosch pinout, so my stock of Bosch relays works to test there!).

Then it's time to volt / ohm the wiring back in case the wiring quit.

Oh, and be sure to measure voltage along the way - one of the ways the ignition switch can fail on my (not the same vehicle!) Cougar is to drop power to fuel and injectors by screwing up power to the ECU ... could be as simple as a bad switch.

Check the 3 wire slice under the power distribution center on left front fender.

I know the splice is good because that's how I got the truck for cheap. I opened up the harness because I had a wire burn up last year and all of them were good. I don't recall hearing the relay so I'll check that

Not sure why the relay ain't clicking but the pump is seized. Now I have to find the motivation to drop 15gals of fuel since the bed is full of scrap

Update. I put a new pump in and I had no power to it (it was a working spare) all the relays work. I have power at 30 on the fuel pump relay and asd relay and power at both 30 and 86 on both relays. But I also have low power at 85 on the fuel pump relay. Is this normal?

you should be able to jumper from 30 to 87 and the pump should run, if it does swap relays around and see what happens, if not you have an open between the relay and the pump

I'd say it is your wiring as that is a known problem with dakota gas gauges/fuel pump.
Here's a couple of sites I found I couldn't find the Edmonds article for my dakota that explained what the wires were doing. Its got something to do with the wires breaking or the connection inside the connector at the tank failing.
