Default lifter and push rod installation

I have replaced all the gaskets in my 1993 dodge Dakota 318 magnum.Everything is running well except for a little knock in the lifters. What is the proper way to reinstall the pedestals.(lifters and rods) meaning tourque spec and the right way to do it. thanks.

first go to a real parts house and get permatex Assembly lube its red in color. use on all moving parts. my 2001 dakota paper factory service manual calls out 21 ft lbs torque on bolts. my book only shows the 5.9 but i think they are the same. it all calls out a rotation of crank as you put the push rods in. i dont really understand what you are to be doing here. but my guess is you should be sure the cam lobes are down when you put the push rods in. and waight 5 min be for rotation the cam. so they bleed down before putting a load on the lifter by rotating the cam. so it will be kind of like setting valve lash. valve cover bolts 95 in lbs. oil pan bolts 215 in lbs. the oil pan spec seams high to me.

does the cam have to be in a certain position when mounting the pedastals and bolts? someone told my to back sure the piston was all the way down before tightening? Is that accurate?

Got a manual? Even Haynes would do. Follow directions. You can even download a FSM from this forum, Magnum engine specs should be all the same for Gen 1 V8s.

You may have a crappy lifter. I've always put the lifters in an oil bath and pumped them to get them primed.
