I just replaced one of the original headlights on my 87 Dakota. The original bulb is plastic. Why did dodge use plastic? I have seen this in cars that have flip lights like some of the corvettes, but that was due to weight when turning etc. Just wondering why dodge used them in the Dakota.

 

Is it sealed beam? Yes, the housing will be plastic and the bulb is glass. Weight and cost savings. Back in the old days they were all glass.

 

yes, it is a sealed beam. It is a sealed plastic back and plastic lens all with the element. part no. hp4666. The bulb I replaced it with is all glass. The other side had already been replaced with a all glass bulb.
The p in the part number is for plastic and I was wondering why dodge used them.
