Aftermarket stereo
I ordered a pioneer stereo for my truck. I also ordered a mount kit and a stereo harness adapter.
Now for my question. On crutchfield's web site they show a floating ground adapter for the speakers. Has anyone needed this or used it?

OK. so I guess no one has run into this. Still waiting on my new stereo to come in, but looking at the FSM, it appears that they have 4 individual speaker + wires, but the - terminals are not individual. They have the Left side, front and rear on 1 - wire and the right side, front and rear on another - wire.
Unless I hear something different from anyone, I will probably pull 2 new speaker wires to the rear locations. That way I can keep all the - terminals as individual wires.

I recently replaced my stereo and all 4 speakers because the stock stereo was starting to not come on when cold, then started to cut out occasionally while driving...I did a bit of research and I guess the internals of the stock stereos do not last long and are unfixable. I connected all the harnesses for the stereo and speakers as shown by crutchfields instructions.
I do not understand what you mean by "floating ground adapter", but what I did was cut the ground connection to the stock stereo and connect it with the ground on the adapter.
I hope this helps. Depending when you get your stereo/speakers in, I could take a few photos for you if you'd like. The wiring is a bit tedious.

*****, here is a link to the adapter that crutchfield suggest to be used with an aftermarket stereo and the Dakota.http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ALqmvHw...d-Adapter.html
Now I think the problem is, the radio manufacture wants a individual positive and negative wire for each speaker, all the way back to the stereo.
The Dakota factory wiring uses 1 common negative for the left side, both front and rear speaker, They use 2 positive. One for front and one for rear. Same on right side.
So in other words, the factory wiring gives 4 positive speaker wires and 2 negatives.
I understand this floating ground adapter is supposed to match the 2 up. (factory wiring and a stereo that wants 4 positives and 4 negative wires to the stereo)
But as I was trying to say, I think my best bet will be to just pull new wires to the front speakers or the rear.
On another note, The stereo says to use 4 ohm speakers only. The factory speakers are 2 ohm. So it looks like im going to need to change it all at once anyways.

from what i remeber all the speakers do have a common ground and are positive feed from stereo, which is fine, i installed a small older clarion single din touchscreen and just used the cheap wiring adaptor from walmart and faceplate aswell, nothign else was used i replaced both rear speakers and door speakers for pioneers and all worked great..
connect stereo to wiring adaptor, plug into main harness, i had to connect ground after the fact to the chassis tho from the harness i had got, otherwise everyhtign was great, then i swapped that deck out for a bluetooth unit with sat radio and so on and same applied..
had this originally: http://www.clarion.com/us/en/product...851137410.html
then this: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/prod...lId=MODL027893
then sold truck lol
