Default 89 dokota problem need help

hi i have a 89 dodge dakota while im driving it it for a bit it just quits as if you turned the key off but its on, none of the dash worning lights come on but its not running ,i thought it might be the fuel pump or filter so i poured gas in the throttle body- but it still wouldnt start but turns over fine , after cranking it over several times still no results i finally cranked it over and just kept cranking it till the battery sarted running down and right at the last it fired up again, this the 3rd time its done this this week any ideas of whats happening here

Ideas I have
If you can get the battery tested to be sure it is good. Even if it cranks they sometimes do not produce enough power.
Make sure there is power to the fuel pump. If there is figure out how to test it to be sure it is working.
Trace the starting circuit looking for shorts.

Edit
Another idea
A short in the fuel pump circuit.
