1989 Dakota
Recently picked up 89 dakota with 3.9 and 5sp. Friend of mine offered me a 1993 Magnum 318, wiring harness/computer and fuel pump to do swap. From wat ive read i will still need to run bigger fuel lines. I know i have to do exhaust different What else am i looking at as far as parts?
Electric fan, or the core support forward off the 1993. Shorter bolts to replace the current fan blade, or the core support forward off the 1993.
The transmission from the 3.9 will bolt up, however, Chrysler used a not-as-strong transmission on the 3.9 vis the 5.x V8s, so be prepared to either replace the NV2500 with a NV3500 or baby it until you CAN swap transmissions.
The motor mounts will swap from the 3.9 to the 5.2, so that's not a big deal there.
Oh - lube to help it slip in, and a big bottle of aspirin for you *grins* It'll NEVER go as smoothly as you think it will.
Just as a note- Shelby had to use an electric fan in front of the radiator due to the lack of room between the front of the V8 and the radiator on the first Gen1's, and that's why the nose pokes out on the 1991+ Gen1's, to make room for the fan on the V8s.
I also discovered the battery tray is different between the two, due to the core support bubbling out further.

your going to need a 5.2 magnum flywheel if you are keeping the EFI system as well.
Your swap sounds very similar to what I plan to do. But mine is factory carbed. I plan to convert to a carb and standard hei ignition. I can use the stock 3.9 flywheel, but you will not be able too. If you use EFI you will need the 5.2 magnum flywheel for the sensor signal.
As said above, keeping the early front end of the truck will require using an electric fan and mounting it in front of the radiator. I hope to sandwich it in between the condenser and radiator.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

yea have the e fan taken care of, just spaced that. yea goin to baby the transmission. i dont plan on making it a race truck by any means. does the NV3500 swap right in? Guess i will see if work can order factory flywheel for me, joys of working at dodge lol. And do u happen to know the fuel line size needed? I know the pressure is a decent amount more.
You will need a Dakota oil pan, and some of the accessories as well. Its my understanding that the ps pump from a ram will not clear in the Dakota. Ragged89 has one of the best post out there on converting to a v8 magnum. Here it is. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...le-dakota.html
