Default Dorman intake gasket opinions

Hey all,

How do you guys feel about Dorman products? I found a complete intake and plenum repair gasket kit with bolts and thermo at pepboys.

http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/495309/00604

I also have a 35% off code if I buy more that $100 so I'm thinking of getting several upgrades together

If you guys are interested the code is:
Secret35

This will roughly make it around 34 bucks, which is better than ebay. Plus I much rather buy from pepboys than ebay. Though, I will probably buy the aluminum plenum off ebay...

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

Dorman? For most things, it's the "Oh, geez, NOBODY else has this???" source of last resort. Doesn't keep me from buying a metric boatload of Dorman stuff (like my door hinge bushings and pins, various connectors, etc.) - it's just that normally if you can find a better brand, DO.

I've used quite a few dorman products with no issues but I will agree they're not grade A quality in everything they do. I've used everything from window motors to brake parts to a nylon fuel line kit for doing custom lines (which is an awesome kit IMO). I do notice that they're metal parts don't have the best rust proofing...for example parking brake connectors. They're sturdy enough but rusted quick. I sprayed them liberally with fluid film do they should be good for a while. Don't remember if I've ever used gaskets. As Ralph said there are better options but I wouldn't hesitate to use them if that's what was available.

If money is a big deal then it will probably do just fine. I used this kit http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...2&partid=26194
Because it fixes the plenum problem permanently. I had the intake tanked and the TB too along with replacing all the sensors on the TB and the 2 coolant and the intake air temp sensor. My gas mileage went form 9 mpg to about 18mpg. I got the new intake bolts too.

The Hughes kit is the best option or anther one like it sometimes on eBay for cheaper. Next option is to get the hard gasket with an O-Ring style seal all the way around it. I believe I got it from Autozone, Felpro possibly, go in the store to check it out.

Thanks for the responses. Maybe I will just spend the extra money for the hughes kit and get a the additional stuff at pepboys.

I had a ticking noise on mine so I did the timing chain and added the tensioner in TSB http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1997/09-07-97.htm at the same time. I only wish I knew the hydraulic lifters (also a probable source of the ticking) were right there I probably would have done them too because the ticking is still with me. I don't want to take the intake off again just now.
