Default Idling rpm

I'm looking to see what you guys idle at. I Adle around 400 just under most times, seems low. I was feathering the throttle and letting it drop and watching the rpms drop and I actually ended up stalling it.

Default cluster tach.

Just so you know the tach on the cluster is not very accurate. Mine reads 3 to 4 hundred but is actually at 600 found this out when I had my last smog check.

I had a scope on it last year an it was pretty close to the cluster tach. That could have been just a good day for it ahah. Any ways the cap for the throttle adjuster screw has been removed so I know some one played with it. Maybe I'll just bump it to where it sits above 400 rather than below

I'm pretty sure the computer sets it, but like yours someone messed with mine. When I did the plenum I set the screw on the tb to where the butterfly was just closed under the spring pressure. I have had the tranny rebuilt and a new TV cable and return spring put on as well. It idles at 600 now.

I guess I'll see where the butterfly is sitting and make a judgment call

How does the factory service manual say to set it?

AutoZone can usually print this out for you if you ask them.

Also, you should be able to get it from an AllDataDIY subscription if you have one (I have both the FSM and the ADD subscription for my truck, they're a wonderful pair!)

Mine had been very high from right after I bought it, 12-1600. After I did the plenum it was real low, 200 but it sounded and ran fine. When I had the tranny rebuilt it has settled at around 600.
The tranny guy said he didn't think the gauge was accurate. He said it "felt" like it was doing 400-500rpm's when it read 200.

You can always adjust it until it settles in where its comfortable. I think the standard for any motor is somewhere from 600 to 800rms at idle.

Well I decided to change my cap n rotor and wires on this bitter cold day, boy did she need it. I leaned on the vacuum line that goes to that ugly ball on the fire wall and broke it.. Woops. I don't even know what that ball is but I feel like it's related to the egr. My rpms are now at 900 so that's a cool fix till I grab that T from a wrecker hopefully tomorrow
