1st gen v6 to v8 swap ?'s
this is kind of just a general question, I'm not looking for specific answers, I have a 95 Dak 4x4 v6, and I have a 97 v8 (the 318), in a jeep. I'm just wondering how much trouble it would be to drop said v8 into the Dak. It's my second truck the first one was a 93 v6 4x2, and it had plenty of power for my needs, so I just knew that this one would too. But, the 4x- actually takes more horses than I thought it would. I've got a trailer and a mower I pulled with the 2x, no problem, I even pulled my brothers 30ft fishing boat, with tandem axle trailer no problem, my dad's tractor was no problem, it never down shifted out of overdrive at all. But the 4x, with just the small mower on it, is constantly down and up-shifting, so I turn off the O/D. I just don't get why basically the same truck (except the 2x, 4x,) with the same engine, would be that different on shifting out of O/D.
I would get my mechanic to do the job, I'm just wondering about swapping out the computers, the trans, or what else. I know I can't just drop it in and everything work, I'm just not sure how much has to be changed, it may be easier just to trade for a v8, or a 2x, I don't really need the 4x, I just didn't know it was a 4x, until I drove almost an hour to look at it, and at the price I couldn't turn it down. I could trade and come out way ahead. That's my story, so you can gauge what I might want to do.
thanks for the replies
