I checked that site. There's a one in eastern Canada and a few scattered throughout the states. (Apparently the rear drive shafts are often ruined when the crane moves the wrecked truck around). Parts in the states are out of the question for now since shipping alone seems to be around $150. I'll look into this part in eastern Canada and see if it's something worth pursuing.

No luck on craigslist for part outs. I've joined a bunch of classified Facebook pages around my area that I've put ISO ads on to hopefully lure someone that couldn't have been bothered to post an ad. If I don't get any bites in the next few days, I'll go with the repair.

Just ideas you kno ha.. 300$ for a repair... That better be brand new if u ask me. Just for ****s and giggles call A1 Driveshaft here in Milwaukee and talk to Pat (414) 445-9996. He's real good and built a few shafts for my Dakota with one ton axles under it.

UPDATE: I found a parts truck down in Idaho Falls (I live in Calgary). This truck is a 94 V8 4x4 5 speed.

Can anyone confirm for me that the driveshaft from this truck is the same as my truck? I'm curious because I have the AX-15 transmission, and this truck has the NV3500. I'm really hoping that the dimensions of the shaft are the same. What about the splines in the slip yoke?

If nothing else works measure the broken shaft from the center of the hole for the U joint to the other center. You can measure it from the top of the one hole to the top of the other hole and still be right. That way you know what length you need and someone may be able to supply you with a shaft that fits. IDK what other specs it would have to meet.

Yes the splines will be the same on the slip and believe the transmissions are the same length meaning same length for driveshaft I would gamble it honestly

Success! Was looking through someone's personal junkyard to see if they had a compatible driveshaft, and I saw they had a 1994 dakota (complete) in their driveway that had the correct driveshaft underneath. I asked if they were selling the truck by any chance, and they were! So picked it up the next day for dirt cheap ($420 USD). I'll be installing my new driveshaft tonight .

I decided to buy the whole truck because it has the V8 magnum with the 5 speed NV3500 transmission. I'll use the engine and tranny for a future engine tranny rebuild/engine tranny swap into my current Dakota (which is a v6). That'll be a different thread sometime soon! Looking forward to making a fun project out of it.

FYI, the splines do not match. The AX15 tranny has 26 splines, while the NV3500 has 25.

The drive shafts are exactly the same, however.

Is your truck 2wd or 4x4?

So your saying the TransferCase out put shaft splines are different?
