Yeah I am, I counted the number of splines in the each slip yoke twice. The width of the yoke on the slip yoke is different as well. The yoke from the 92 is narrower and requires a different u joint than the yoke from the 94 which is wider.

That is interesting. I thought that the v6 and v8 used the same transfer case. The 87 used a unique np207d while 88 and up used the np231d. Thought they all interchanged. Glad to hear you got it going though!

I've twisted two output shafts right off from my 93 truck that had a 92 5.2 w 96 v6 Trans and 92 231d tcase (from my 5.2) then twisted the shaft off replaced the tcase from a v6 like 95 one with no issues.. So idk why his would be different... After it broke the 2nd time I replaced the tcase with a 241DHD and never had a issue with rear shafts again

Can anyone confirm for me that the driveshaft from this truck is the same as my truck? I'm curious because I have the AX-15 transmission, and this truck has the NV3500. I'm really hoping that the dimensions of the shaft are the same. What about the splines in the slip yoke?

300$ for a shaft repair
Then I search for something tips or tutorials to do on my own
And then I got this article here. It has shown some steps for removinf rear drive shaft for Dodge Ram 1500.
I am not sure enough if these steps would work or not.
Can anyone suggest if these steps would work?

Default V8 is different

I have a 92 4x4 3.9l extended cab that I need a new rear drive shaft for. Somehow the U-joint in the back went bad and destroyed itself and the rear yoke in the drive shaft. Luckily I was going slow when the whole shaft fell out!! I'm wondering what other years/types of dakotas will have shafts that will work for my truck. Going to look for one in the junk yard in a day or two.

My questions are:
  1. What range of years? Newer dakotas too?
  2. Are V8 shafts different? Do I need a shaft from a V6?
  3. Will a shaft from a 2WD truck work for my 4x4?
I already know I need a shaft from an extended cab.

Thanks in advance for the info!! Really appreciated.
v8 drive shaft is different, if you need one I have a spare

Default Dakota driveshaft

I have a 98 dakota ext. Cab 3.9 sport. Replacing the driveshaft. I got a driveshaft from a 2000 dakota ext. cab SLT. The driveshaft is 1/2 in shorter will it still work or do I need s spacer?
