Default Transmission Question 1990 3.9 Auto

I never drive my truck hard, don't drive in traffic, and rarely get above 55mph. Yesterday, I was messing around and stomped it to the floor causing it to down shift hard, afterwards it seemed to stick in between gears, almost like I lost drive and above. It would shift fine reverse first and second but when it would shift to drive it like it stuck in neutral. I manually shifted down to first then second and everything went back to normal. Is there a cable that kicks it into passing gear that is possibly sticking?

Yes, there is a cable called the TV cable that helps the transmission determine if it should downshift or not.

I'd check fluid and, if you've not gotten fluid / filter / bands adjusted on it, I'd schedule a service job on it (presuming that it does need bands adjusted. My 3 speed auto in my 1988 has two to adjust.)
