Default Removing Bed

90 vert ...can someone confirm six bolts? I thought I'd read three on each side...two near rear and one in front. 1/2" with blue loctite. Took them out and the filler neck and tried to use my lift pads under the wheel wells but the whole chassis appears to want to still come up with bed. Didn't want to press my luck and break something.

I was under it...on a lift so clear view. Took out the ones I saw, dropped it back down and tried it with the lift on the bed and no go.

I had 8 in mine - 2 behind the cab, 2 at the rear bumper and 2 on either side of the axle. (maybe it was 6 - but I'm not going to walk out in the rain right now to check).

That's what I took out on each side...1 behind cab, 1 over axel and 1 at rear. The axel and rear one were about a foot apart and right on the frame rail. The one by the cab was inside the rubber bushing support.

If I'm understanding your post there were two at the axel? One on each side (front to back)? Maybe I missed that pair then.

There are 8 bolts. Next to the cab in front of the axle, behind the axle and next to the rear bumper. Feel up inside the channel steel the spare is probably obscuring it on the driver side. Be sure to remove the escutcheon over spare tire crank where it pokes out the back above the plate. You have to swing the bed back about a 1/2 inch to clear this so you can raise it. You are probably missing the one behind the axle. It is the hardest one to get to on the driver side and a bit less so on the passenger side.

Add that there may be a 9th bolt, dead center at the front. for the grounding wires.

At least on my 1988 there were a total of 9.

Thank you for the midnight post! Saved me another up/down with the lift, as yes, there was a 9th bolt holding two ground straps to the cab.

Bed is off!
