Um, honestly not 100% sure. I'd do some Google fu and see what you find. I forgot you have an LA where I have a magnum. I'm not sure what all the differences were, it may or may not be cleanable to help your problem like my magnum is. But I'd still say that's your problem since it seems to be driving fine. Maybe a new one isn't expensive? My IAC is like $20 new.

Kevin - alas, what you have isn't really an IAC then (and it's throttle body injected and the LA block).

What yours will have is a "throttle kicker" that raises the idle.

It can STILL be failing; check the factory service manual for the proper method of adjusting it to check it.

Changed out the fuel filter; it was on the frame rail but the truck still acts up. I can drive it round town and back with no problems but the next time i go to drive it, it dies goin down the road...i pop the clutch and it keeps going. today i'm leaving the dollar store and it dies while i'm waiting to merge into traffic and it wouldn't start back up. i call someone thinking i'd have to push it out of the way and tried it and it finally started but ran kinda rough and then smoothed out. got home at least.....next move i guess will be to go on and replace that IAC thing. bummer

Another symptom i never mentioned is that when i start the truck, there is considerable white smoke coming from the exhaust. if i drive it everyday then the smoke is not so bad and clears up as i drive; if it sits for two days then it's worse. fuel related? thank y'all

White smoke? Usually, that's coolant burning off ...

I'm too lazy to look back - have you done the compression / bleed down / gasses in coolant tests yet?

Wow i hope you're wrong. My friend from jena la came and worked on both my trucks but had to go. he will come back to help me further at some point and he also mentioned doing a compression check then, thanks....i'm so weirded out that he and i rode around in it and it never acted up once...me alone in it and it's wacko time; oh well. thanks for keeping this thread open till i get some closure

If there is a blue tinge to the smoke it might "just" be oil. Not a lot better but better.
