Default Rims

Hi Guys

I want to put different factory rims on my Dakota. I already have to of the 15 inch rims. I am having problems of finding the other 2 rims. I went to a salvage yard couple days ago. I didn't find the 15 inch rims. I found a set of 16 inch rims the same style I want but don't know what size of 16 to run on the rims. I can get the 16 inch rims for $35.00 a piece. I was going run a 235/75/15. Can someone tell me what 16 tires I can run on my 94 Dakota?

Thank You

Well, Tirerack.com says the 16" factory Dakota rims were equipped with 255/65-16 tires. 15" rims came with 215/75-15 or 255/65-15 (again according to Tirerack). A 235/70-15 would be a reasonable substitute; a 235/75-15 might be a bit on the tall side, compared to the factory tires.

I believe the wheel in the picture you provided is the 15". The 16" are similar, but the spoke design is slightly different.

Uh.. 235/75/15 is a factory tire size for Dakotas.

Stock size tires on your 16" wheels.

As I noted, those sizes are what Tirerack.com lists as OE. Doesn't mean they got it right though.

235/75/15 is one of the most common tire sizes for older pick ups. Its right.

Have you never looked on your door sticker?

Don't know if the OP looked, but my '89 had no door (or post) tire spec stickers. Before I had it painted I removed most of the other factory stickers on the body in order to put them back later, but no tire stickers on the doors (or anywhere else).

I looked at Tirerack again today, and there's the 235/75-15 listed as an OE 15" tire size. Drugs maybe, anyway thanks for catching my mistake.

I think the 235/75R15 is for the 4WD; on my 2WD 1988, no lift, the front tires rub at times while turning (usually caused by a bump that's hard enough while turning.)

These are the proper tire sizes according to the local Chrysler dealer.

1988-1996 Dodge Dakota:
2WD: 215/75R15, 225/75R15, or 195/75R15 (2.5l)
4WD: 235/75R15,

If you're going with the 16" rims I'd highly recommend going with a set of 215/65R16 Falken Ziex ZE950. Have them on my '02 Sport, '03 Caravan and '06 Sportage and I wouldn't recommend anything else. They out perform any tire I've used for the road.

Two things wrong with this post:

1: 235/75/15 was an optional tire size for 4wd, not mandatory. Yes, it was what 99% probably had, but not mandatory.

2. Pretty poor advice spouting out a tire for someone when he doesn't even say where he lives. Sure, the falkens are probably good tires, but, id never buy those falkens because they'd be useless to me for part of the year.
