I Own a 94 Dodge Dakota 4x4 v6 and the strangest thing happened. I turned on the truck in the morning to go to work and I shift it in reverse and it leaps forward. I step on the gas and it will not move at all...rpm's rev up but it will not move..i put it in drive and it will move very sluggish. I shift it in neutral and push my truck backwards and it wont budge, it feels like its in park.
I turn off my truck and shift it to neutral and truck will Not move at all even if I get two own men to push it back. its Stuck...
4x4 will not engage ( manual shifter )
please Help

I lifted the differential and took off the driveshaft....wheels turn freely
linkage looks good....unscrewed linkage and tried to shift the 4x4 manually and it was stuck...transmission linkage is working properly , manually and it being connected ..
I am going to take off the transfer case to once an for all eliminate the possibility of being either the transfer case or the tranny being the problem....
what do you think ?

something screwy in the valve body, or rear band too tight... the "put into reverse and it went forward" gives that away.
weird though that it would not roll in neutral with the truck not running.
the sluggishness when put into drive says that either the torque converter has issues or, again the valve body.

Looks like the needle bearings out of a thrust bearing and alot of clutch material. I'd rip it apart just to see though I have been inside of these transmissions myself many times, just rebuilt the one in my 96 last week, doing my spare this weekend being as how OD seems to be trying to die in the transmission that is under my 92. Not bad though that one has 187k on it and it hasn't been touched besides a couple of filter and fluid changes since new.
