If I pull the bed, I will take the bumper off first. I was thinking of the straps from the stake holes in a crisscross patern, then using my engine lift from the back to lift it up. Also, was thinking about a moving blanket between the cab and bed for scratch protection.
I dont need to take it off other then wanting to paint the frame....
But thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

my chevy k2500 i used two straps back and front then ran ratchet straps to the rafters in my garage... lifted it up then drove the truck out from under it... i have a 40x80 garage so i could leave it hang there and still have the truck in the garage to work on it

I removed the bed off my 90 by myself. It was a royal pain but it's rusted out and I wasn't worried about damaging it.

I've done truck fuel pumps both ways, with bed removal or tank drop, every time I have done a Dakota I have done the tank drop....
gotta redo the one in the 92 because the gauge has been INOP ever since, been using the trip meter as a gas gauge, same thing with my newly acquired 96, have not messed with that one yet.

on the 92, I aligned the arrow on the tank with the one on the replacement (Delphi) pump.... this time I will be raising the bed so I can see if loosening and rotating will allow the gauge to work.
