Default timing chain

I have a 94 Dakota 3.9 Magnum that needs a new timing chain. I would like to go with a double roller chain but have read that the extra width sometimes causes trouble. Can anyone tell me how likely that is and what modifications are necessary if there is interference?

Mine went in just fine, get the Tensioner when you do it.

wouldnt do you any good if you did or not. The computer controls the timing.

As fast as the tensioner, you should definitely get a double roller OR a tensioner, getting both is a waste of money. Adding both doesn't make it any better. Though again , one of those two should be the replacement.

ye i didnt want to deal with moving the crank sensor and the timing lots of headach for little benifit, the chain i got had the option. my thought was cost of tensioner and single chain was basically same cost as double roller chain... with double roller i will most likely never need to worry about it again. haha

The Tensioner is a Technical Service Bulletin item. They built them without but ran into trouble with chain noise complaints. If its a waste of money its not much money and it went on fine with the double roller. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1997/09-07-97.htm You just reuse the existing bolts.

I didn't have one installed originally .. I may have installed one when I did my chain .. I didn't want to deal with having to buy the whole assembly bolts and all .

Mine is noisy, but at 201k should I bother? Has anyone actually heard of one failing?
