Charging Issue - Code 41
Getting code 41 and battery not charging. I replaced the alternator today thinking it was the culprit, not the case.
I put a volt meter on the battery terminals (and from ground to +post on alternator). It starts around 11.9 and gradually drops a tenth of a volt until about 11.4 volts. Then I checked the 2 small terminals on the alt. and the voltage is the same as the battery (around 11.5 volts)
Does this sound like a voltage regulator problem? If so, where can I find the thing?
Thanks in advance!

Regulator is in the PCM.
Triple check all your fuses and fusible links first.
Also, if it's the regulator failed, you can put an external regulator on it.
Here's info on how one guy did it: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...onversion.html

Have you checked the factory service manual for the list?

if it's like my 90 only one 10 awg green fusible link between the alternator and battery....I burnt mine up last week so I know it well.
Sounds to me like it's the battery....will it take a charge from an external charger?

Yes it will take a charge from my charger.
Fuses all check out
From what I understand the voltage coming off the field coil connections should around 5vDC if the regulator is working properly. I'm 11v+ off of mine. For $30, I'm gonna try an external reg and see what happens.
Update soon

External regulator fixed it. 14.3 beautiful volts at idle
thanks for all the quick responses, I'm still learning this truck lol
Now Is there a way to get rid of the 41 code even though the ECM voltage regulator is disconnected? I'm assuming no but I figured I'd ask lol
Thanks again!
