My harbor freight orbital buffer blew up in my face, flung parts all over the garage, and the Ryobi I bought to replace it started smoking and melting. These were the old school "Wax Spreader" types, so I knew I needed to arm myself with something new, and meant for working hard.
I decided to get a Griot's 6" orbital because of the warranty and the fact it came in a kit with the backing plate, a pad, and sealant for roughly $20 less than the PC 7424XP. I haven't had a chance to use the Griot before I lost light, but it looks like the paint will clean up better than I thought. It might just be the cleanest looking 1st gen I've seen around here.
This is as far as I got with the Ryobi before I got tired of it threatening to bust into flames. I'll post some more up after I hit it with the new machine.
This is the part that will be a test, the roof is of course pretty miserable looking.
Meguiar's is about all I use, save for some odds and ends. I have their cutting compound, finishing polish, glaze, wax, detailer, etc. I'll post some more pics tonight if the rain holds off!
The new DA makes such short work of this mess. Unfortunately between work and the other duties of life, I have been doing this little by little. The whole truck is done being compounded now, now I need to go back over it with the polish and sealant. I think it will be worth it though. I felt bad for the poor little truck:
Finally done, I compounded with Meguiar's, then used a Griot's polish and sealant to clean it up, then waxed the whole thing with Meguiar's Ultimate synthetic wax. I think it turned out OK for a junker.
It was a $800 truck that was just supposed to be a junky hauler. Now I'm thinking about getting a cover for it...I really need to learn to leave things alone, if I don't they get too nice and I end up selling them.
