Default Early vs Later Dakota Brake Differences

Hi guys.
Firstly, I'm new here, but I've looked and researched as much as possible in regards to Gen 1 brakes. I'm working on an 87 2wd (with the smaller 14" rim brakes) and want to upgrade to the larger rotors. To me, it looks like both rotor sizes use the same pads, but the caliper bracket would be too tight to allow the larger rotors. Is that accurate? So my question, if that's the case, could the caliper bracket from a 94 2wd bolt up to an earlier steering knuckle? Would I need the later calipers/flex lines too?
Any insight would sure be appreciated! There does not seem to be any detailed info that I've found anywhere online or with any parts stores or other sources.

The bracket may; the parts listing shows a different pad for 91-96 than for 87-90. And a different caliper.

I'd stick with the 87-90 spindles for the brackets.
