Default 91 dodge Dakota no start

Ok so this is pretty embarrassing. I was checking a fuse under my hood I thought my key was turned off (I know I should have dced battery lol) but my key must have been turned and smoke suddenly poured out my air cleaner so I quickly ran turned key off and removed barrel to look at throttle body and it all seemed ok. So I turned it over and now no start, I checked fuel and it seems to be still giving fuel but there was no spark. So I checked and found there was power coming from coil but not passed distributor I don't see how that all this could have damaged my cap or rotor is there something else I could have fried?

The 2 fuses I had pulled were the auto shut down and the interior lamp. I'm getting 1.8 volts from coil wire is that normal?

Usually smoke is from a fusible link that gave up its life....but I don't know of any near the air cleaner...most are along the driver side fender wall near the relays.

Ok I should be asking does anyone know what would have been smoking inside my air cleaner when I changed the fuse.

Shouldn't be anything in there.

Did the smoke have an odor to it?

The only things that could possibly have been were a) vapor from the oil breather tube; b) gasoline vapor from the injectors; c) the injectors burning (and if THAT doesn't make you dump a load in your pants, the thought of your fuel injectors getting so hot they're melting ... you do not have an adequate imagination!)

There's nothing else there on the TBI units that could possibly be emitting a vapor of ANY kind.

I'd say the oil breather from the driver side valve cover to the air cleaner hat probably let some smoke out.
