Default What are these vents for on my 1995 Dak?

While taking my cowl off to paint some areas and prevent them from rusting, i noticed two identical holes right below the windshield on each side of the truck. Originally there was a small 2 inch by 2 inch mesh with a drywall stucco material that was covering the hole. The mesh material appeared to be oem. I removed both from each side due to their deterioration and have no clue as to what purpose these two holes serve. Id like to cover them with silicone unless they are used for a breather of some sort? I have attached a picture for reference. Thank You!

I believe it is the outside intake for the blower motor (AC/Heater). Best to put back the screen.

Oh boy. That might be a problem. The screen was basically a square piece of cloth with some type of plaster material that was completely deteriorated hence why i removed it.

Take a look in the 95 FSM on the FAQ page. Your pictures are too close up for me to see clearly what exactly you are focused on. Anyway there are a lot of holes in the diagrams and there is a screen and seal part in the diagram as well. Chapter 23 page 7 and 8.

Did you add the black tar looking stuff or was that already there? Could these be vents to equalize pressure in the cab when you shut the doors?

The vents to EQ the pressure on a door slam are in the doors themselves, at least in the early Gen1's.

The black paint is POR15. Still have no idea what to cover the hole with.

Find a restoration shop and ask them? my other idea was to get some good quality nonmetallic fine mesh screen materiel and silicone caulk it in place.
