Default Brake light

I drivea 94 dodge dakota. The parking brake light and abs light will not shut off. They used to come on when i drove through deep water but would go away after the truck turned off. Now they stay permanently on. How can i make them function normally again?

If pre-96 the brake light comes from the differential pressure piston switch on top of the front proportioning valve on the driver's side. The ABS light comes from the ABS controller which is inside the cab behind the glove box on the passenger side kick panel wall. However, the ABS unit receives its info from the rear proportional valve and differential speed sensor. The common denominator in both lights is the wiring bundle in the rear harness. There are two harnesses that go to the back...they have the fuel pump, rear proportioning valve, brake light switch, and rear lights in them. Crawl under and inspect them. You likely have chaffed or shorted wires, especially if going through water used to exacerbate the problem.
