Thanks Ragtop. I have the 10-bolt so per your insight it is probably the 8-1/4. I have rear drive only but have the 318. like you.

Op, jack the rear end up. Turn the tires while in neutral. If they spin the same way, its an LSD. If they spin the opposite way, its an open diff.
Because the cover is off if he's changing the fluid; it's even easier to look with it off.

Also, a FAILED LSD will act like an open; so it's not a solid guarantee if they spin opposite directions (failed as in clutches shot, no limiting of the slip).

(I need to get my spare pumpkin for my Cougar rebuilt with the new gears; the 3.08 LSD in it now has failed due to age and poor maintenance in the past.)

that is an 8-1/4 I can tell by the pic of what's visible of the cover flange part of the housing last winter when I got my 96, I rebuilt mine and used that as an excuse to add a Track Lok to mine because I had one sitting here....
