Hi, I am in the process of swapping a 1996 2.5 AMC Dakota Sport 2WD over to a 5.9L Magnum. I have all of the electronics, trans, and tuning plans sorted out but I am on wits end on how the engine mounts piece together. I know the frame mounts have to swapped and I will source those out but all I can find for engine mounts are these:

This only looks like part of the equation and looks like there is a lot missing than just that one piece. Does anyone have any detailed pictures (driver and passenger side) of 2WD engine mounts on their 3.9/5.2? I really need something to go by and Google searches are not helping. Thanks in advance.

 

If you have the FSM it should be in there. In the 95FSM (there is a 95FSM on the FAQ page) the 5.2 motor mounts which I do not know if they are the same are in chapter 9 page 82 for the 2WD front mounts. it has a blow up diagram. Scroll down for the 4WD.

 

Do you have a way you can scan the 2WD breakdown of the mounts? I don't have a FSM handy.

Where are you guys getting the strut(s?) that bolt onto the insulator assemblies and frame bracket struts? Square bodies are getting scarce at local yards and this doesn't seem something you can by online or at parts stores. Are there any alternatives for these? EDIT: Found this diagram that shows the strut as being "auto only", for those of you who have stick 3.9/5.2s do you have the struts?

 

That barrel mount is different than the mounts you show. I had those barrel mounts and struts on my auto 3.9. I was able to successfully swap them onto my 5.9 magnum drop in. The struts are just braces that connect the block to the bell housing of the trans. You can likely live without them.

To answer your question 96daksport, my '89 5 speed (4wd) had the struts. When I swapped out the 3.9/NP2500 with a 5.2/NV3500 I kept the struts.

UPDATE, so I found a 3.9 at a yard with the brackets I need and the torque strut to go along with it. Removed the AMC 2.5 mounts and bolted on the 3.9 mounts and everything went together cleanly. I used a 5.9 Magnum from a 2001 Durango SLT. The engine went in in no time. Wiring harness (using a 1996 5.2 wiring harness and ECM) was ordered today, and I will be sourcing a 3.9 AX15 next. Already have 5.9 external balanced flywheel and 5.9 LUK Clutch. Still need a few odds and ends like fuel pump, slim radiator fan w/ fan controller & relay, new clutch master cylinder, Wideband o2 etc. Tuning will be done by Torrie at Unleashed Tuning and will be custom.
