Well I can't answer that for sure, all I know is that after 20+ years mine on the 96 were brittle as he11.
i wound up leaving them out when I put the 87 doors on because they just fell apart.im thinking that it is plain old gasket material.
When I discovered this pair of doors in the local yard someone else had robbed the door handles from them so I had to take the ones out of the old doors and put them into the replacement doors and what a PITA that is wow.

What a PIA, Don't I know it! I replaced both handles with new when I did the glass channel and the coverlay interior panels then some POS jammed something hard into the passenger side and broke it. The materiel was dicey then now I notice on my driver door it is fully hanging out the bottom I figured I'd replace them when I replace the passenger handle. I'll call a body shop tomorrow and ask them what they do and let you guys know.

Called body shop they said they call the dealer. Called dealer claims there is no gasket for that handle and when asked what it might be made of "uh some kind of rubber?" was the reply.
