5.2 litre slight ringing sound on acceleration
I have a 2001 Dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 litre engine. Great truck runs well but there is this tiny ringing sound under acceleration load which does not occur when I run a premium gas blend. I have asked other owners and they have the same sound but I wonder if this is is any way harmful to run on regular gas. Perhaps the ethanol?

Could be preignition or ping.
Quick cure: Run a higher octane fuel.
Better cure: Run a couple of bottles of Techron cleaner (I also like Seafoam when done properly; others will claim it's snake oil. It might be, but it keeps the snake running smooth ... ) and see if it goes away.
Replace the spark plugs with some a step colder.
Be SURE it's got a good tune up on it.
If it's old enough, replace the O2 sensors (i.e., if it's over 60,000 miles on the O2s.)
Last but not least, try posting in the 2001 Dodge Ram forum, not the 1987-1996 Dakota forum.
