The one wire IS the gauge sender.

I'm with onemore94dak - I bet the threads are gunked up.

However.

The parts list (from the FAQ here) shows a Mopar 4504203 for the gauge sending unit; it's currently available, see for instance https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/part...t~4504203.html .

That's a cross to SMP TS176 or Airtex/Wells 1T1102 . If the latter two aren't fitting, try the Mopar #. Be SURE to get the parts counter guy to double check the part number! Bonus points if you take it in with you.

But before you go that far ... 1) Reinstall the old one to plug the hole (if you use tef tape, be SURE to not cover ALL the threads; leave the bottom two or three uncovered to make a ground connection through!), and 2) Did you ground the wire to see if the gauge works or not? (If grounded, it should peg the gauge.) If not, it might not be the sending unit. If it does, then see if properly installing it fixes the gauge. If still not, well ... at worse, the Mopar number should fit. If it doesn't, you've got some kind of oddball there.
