Default Dakota frame

just needing some help figuring out if the 96 Dakota frame is the same as the 97 Dakota or is there a difference, I’m wanting to get a winch bumper for the truck but as y’all know not much as to aftermarket stuff for the96 Dakota truck so I’m deciding to make one fit. just wanna know if the dimensions are the same or pretty close that little to no moditwill be needed

From what I've gathered here, based on others comments, only the bed mounts are the same, the cab mounts are different.

What about the difference in frame rails for the front end that’s what I’m trying to get the measurements from so I can plan on how the bumper will fit because I found a winch bumperoff of a 97 Dakota at a local pick n save wanna make sure the mounts will fit

no the frame isn't the same but I have heard of people using a back bumper from a 97+ on a 96-older but not the front. just because the frames are different, doesn't mean certain parts won't fit. and (to me anyway) to weld tabs onto a different bumper to fit another vehicle would be no big deal. if that's what it would take.

For the bumper it's a direct mount to use the gen 2 on a gen 1, same with reese type hitches AFAIK.
