Had an ect sensor out of range code. Sensor was indeed in bad shape, however after 2 new sensors from auto zone, neither one will thread into the port. Old sensor goes right back in with no issue, new sensor seems to be a hair too big but ive tried 2 different ones now and still have the same issue. Anyone else ever have this problem? Any suggestions? The truck is a 93 dakota with 3.9 v6. Bought for a work truck but seem to be spending more time working on it than using it for work. Thanks for any help!
Your truck should have two temp sensors. One for the gauge in the dash (one wire sensor) and one for the PCM, (two-wire sensor) You want the two-wire feller, and he is usually stashed next to the thermostat housing, behind the a/c compressor. (yeah, REAL fun to get to.)
The 2 wire sensor is the one I'm working on. It was definitely a joy to get at. Got the old one out but the new one will not thread in. Almost like thread pattern is just a little off. Ive tried 2 different ones. I dont want to have to tap the hole unless I absolutely have too.
New connector is black, old connector on old sensor was basically disenegrated. Took me a while to remove the broken male portion from the female portion without causing further damage. The connector literally pulled off of the sensor when I went to disconnect the plug.
The old sensor looks to have tapered threads, the new sensor does not...... It will probably thread in there, you will just have to get it exactly right to get it to start.
